About Life Education

“I’m really grateful that my children had the opportunity to take part in the Life Education program, because I believe it helps to give children the knowledge and the skills to make safer choices”

Professor Ian Frazer
2006 Australian of the Year

An Aussie Success Story

Life Education began nearly 30 years ago on the steps of the Wayside Crisis Centre in Kings Cross, Sydney, where a young woman collapsed from a drug overdose. Ted Noffs, the organisation’s founder, was so concerned about the dangers facing young people, he began Life Education in 1979. He studied overseas research that showed that children who were given the knowledge and the skills at an early age, were more likely to make better choices later in life.

In 1988, a group of Queensland business people captured Ted Noff’s vision and raised enough funds to build a Life Education Centre on the Gold Coast. Since then around one million Queensland children have benefited from Life Education’s school based programs. It has proven so effective that it is now run in thirteen countries around the world including Hong Kong, New Zealand and the UK.

Life Education Queensland receives no government funding and relies on community support. Through K’s 4 Life, you can help us to reach the children that need this program the most.

Good Choices for a Safe Life

Life Education’s programs empower children to make the right choices for a safe life, free from the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. These programs are delivered by qualified educators using a fleet of mobile learning centres that provide an exciting and interactive learning environment for children.

Life Education’s junior primary school programs focus on the importance of making healthy food choices and undertaking regular exercise, which provide a solid basis for later programs in middle and upper primary that address the dangers associated with tobacco use and alcohol misuse. Topics covered include:

  • Healthy Food Choices
  • Exercise
  • Coping with bullying
  • Safety with medicines
  • Overcoming peer pressure
  • Effects of smoking
  • Dangers of alcohol abuse
